SALTIGA LEADS THE WAY

The new Daiwa Saltiga range of rods and reels have been out for just over a year now with fast growing popularity. Anglers all over W.A have been putting this range of "Space Aged" gear to the max with some outstanding results. The most popular size in the range has been the 4000 which is capable of holding 300mt of PE3 braided line, this small pocket rocket can also punch out a massive 10kg of drag pressure which is outstanding for the size of this reel. The new UTD "Ultimate Tournament Drag" has been a proven winner with silky smooth pressure exerted throughout all stages in tug of war battle's.
One of the biggest benefit's with the new Saltiga range of reels is the revolutionary new "Mag Sealed" design which combats saltwater intrusion into the reel by the way of liquefied magnetic fluid blocking any moist substance penetrating its orifice's. This has by far put Saltiga reels at the top of the line when it comes to the ultimate saltwater spinning reel. The biggest problem I used to encounter on trips away were washing your gear down after every use was not possible was the amount of salt getting into my reels causing them to fail during trips, with "Mag Seal" that is now a thing of the past!
The introduction of "Zaion" has also had a huge affect on the design of the reel with the rotor itself being fully made from Daiwa's trademark product. The use of "Zaion" has dramatically reduced the weight of the reels along with solving corrosion issues which at the end of the day will extend the life of your reel. Zaion can be seen on a lot of the latest reels released from Daiwa, its innovative designs like these that put Daiwa as the leading manufacturer of fishing gear in the world.
The new range of Saltiga rods have also incorporated some revolutionary new designs with the latest rod blanks featuring "X Torque Construction" and "3D Cross Wrapping" which completely minimise twisting of the rod whilst fighting fish. When the blanks are made the carbon is wrapped with a left/right 45 degree weave creating a smaller diameter blank for more strength then a traditional style rod blank. The rods are finished with only the best of the best, Fuji titanium frame K guides are used on nearly all of the rods throughout the Saltiga range, not only does the new style guides keep the line closer to the blank creating a nicer action but they almost completely eliminate line wraps on the guides whilst casting.

Not only does the range of rods offer some groundbreaking new features but Daiwa have also highly taken cosmetics into consideration with just the appropriate amount of bling needed to make these rods stand out from the rest. The most popular models to date in the range for W.A anglers have been the 62S and the 71S. The 62S is by far one of the best light jigging rods on the market which offers just the right action for working jigs in the range of 60-150g, it is a one piece blank offering great strength and a very parabolic action. The 71S has been popular for light casting for tailor around the reefs up to big meter long queenfish of the north, capable of throwing up to 45g this rod is a must have for light tackle casting.
We at Tackle HQ have been extensively testing the range of new Saltiga gear since it hit the shelves just over a year ago now and we believe if you want the best then have a good look at what Daiwa has to offer, you will be more than impressed!!

Tyrone Yahiya, Quinten Fisher and Luke Ryan from THQ recently just returned from Exmouth after a few weeks fishing between April and May. A big percentage of the trip was aimed towards light jigging in shallow water for big coral trout, rankin cod and the likes. The boys also concentrated their efforts on light tackle casting in shallow water with soft plastics and stockbait lures aswell. The water conditions had improved with the average water temp dropping from 29.5 in March to 27.6 now which has improved the fishing vastly. The gulf was slightly dirty but there was still a few queenfish hanging around in the shallows looking for an easy feed. The light jigging was going off for whilst the boys were up there with plenty of reefies coming over the side, there was an abundance of baitfish hanging around the shallow 20-30m water which seemed to boost the shallow water fishing action. One little tip when light jigging for reefies it to try and jig the "slack" period of the tide when the tide swings, all of the big trout and rankins almost instantly came on the bite as soon at the "slack" turned.
Qunny's nice GT that took his Cherry Pai 2 meters from the boat, this fish went 18kgs

Bluebone in shallow water on soft plastics is great fun, this bluebone went 6kg

This Coral Trout measured 82cm

This was the biggest trout for the trip at 83cm and 8.5kg on a lamble bait jig

Quinny had one of the first of the new daiwa 2012 Exist's in W.A for the trip and gave it a good workout, plenty of goldens and queenfish came up on this reel without fail.

Tyrone managed to secure this trout after getting buried a few times.

Lamble Bait jigs killed the trout and rankin, fish just can't resist the jigs!!

This Rankin weighed 7kg and put up a ripper fight on the light Saltiga 62S rod

We caught up with a good customer who lives in Exmouth by the name of Mick, we took him out jigging for the first time and he managed to land this great chinaman

A freindly whale shark that we spotted on sunset, hanging around the same area was another 20-25 whale sharks in a feeding frenzy scooping krill from just under the surface.

Luke Ryan from THQ and friend Zeb K had the chance to head over to the Abrolhos Islands off Geraldton W.A. over the easter break, luckly the weather gods came to the table and greeted the boys with nothing over 10knts for the trip. The main  objective for the trip was to target demersal fish on metal jigs, the the rule of "NO BAIT ALLOWED" on the boat heavily applied! The boat was loaded with more than ample amount of jigs and plenty of spare fuel for the days spent over at the islands. The fishing for the days was really good, plenty of big coral trout came over the side along with some nice dhufish and pink snapper. Jigging with metals definately produced more fish over the side opposed to soft plastics which got ripped up quickly by picker fish, being able to get to the bottom quicker with jigs also resulted in more time in the "strike zone". The Abrolhos is abundent with fish and marine life thats absolutely thriving, being able to experience the Islands is a MUST for all fisherman. Fishing at the Abrolhos can be alot harder then most people expect, fishing patterns change regularly and we have found fish to move around alot more then local grounds, we believe the main reason for the fish moving around so much is due to the forever moving baitfish. All the fish that were caught on the trip were close or under bait schools, finding the bait is the key to finding quality fish. If you can find baitfish on dropoffs you will almost always find fish close by.
Coral Trout like this hit the jigs hard, you need to make sure you fish a tight drag to stop them from busting you off on the bottom.

Trout of this size were plentyful for the trip.

Casting stickbaits around Pelsaert Island produced lots of trout like this.

Lamble Bait Japan 90g was the undoing of this Dhufish

Baldchin grouper were very quite this trip with only a few ok ones being landed

There was plenty of decent size pink snapper kicking around all the bait that was hanging around the drop offs, finding them was easy and getting them to hit jigs was even easier.

Amberjack off the surface was really cool, we hooked a amber whilst jigging and as Zeb got it to the surface a whole school came up and were more then happy to eat a stickbait cast at them.

One of the biggest trout caught jigging for the trip, this fish took a liking to a 180g gold Caprice jig.

Zeb putting a bend in a saltiga 62s, These are the Ultimate demersal jigging rod!

The biggest Dhufish for the trip was taken on a Lamble bait Flat Haoli 120g. This fish weighed just over 9kg

The lamble bait jigs were one of the most productive metals for the trip and something that  we would highly recommend if you want to target fish on lures.

This pink snapper took a jig that was intended for a big school of sambos under the boat. Shows that they are not so fussy as everybody thinks!

We caught a few nice sized spanglys casting stickbaits around Pelsaert, to be able to catch spanglys only 4 hours away from Perth on casting lures must say something about how amazing the Abrolhos is.

MONSTER TROUT on stickbaits were a common capture!!

This trout got into the bottom twice but luckily I was able to get him out, after inspecting the leader I was extremely lucky to land it.

Lamble Bait King got smashed by this snapper!!

Jigs that worked well and are a must for Abrolhos
